My name is Jackson Rathod and people are often surprised when they find out that I decided to raise chickens in my backyard with my family. It is somewhat unusual here in America but quite common in many countries around the world. My chickens have been with me for about six years now. When I was thinking about getting chickens, my wife thought I was crazy. She never thought it would actually happen until it did. I still remember her saying “I can’t believe you got chickens.” Six years later and she can’t imagine being without them.
One of the biggest reasons I decided to raise chickens was that I wanted a hobby that was productive and eco friendly. Also my family eats a lot of eggs, and another reason was that I wanted to teach my kids some responsibilities. I also wanted a pet that would give me something in return, and that was fresh eggs. You don’t have to take chickens for a walk or you don’t have to worry about going out of town and boarding them. Chicken will be just fine as long as they have water and food. People always ask me what do you do in winter with chickens? I tell them they’re just like birds, they just need a little bit of heat and light to keep laying through the long dark winter days.
